Electronic Prescription Service
This practice uses the Electronic Prescription Service. This means that for most patients we can send your prescription directly to your chosen pharmacy. You do not have to come down to the Practice to collect your prescription. For more information please click here. Please note: you should allow 2 working days for you medication to be ready at your pharmacy. To nominate a pharmacy or change your nomination, please call reception or use the NHS App.
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
- Prescription (per item): £9.65
- 12-month Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC): £111.60
- 3-month Prescription Prepayment Certificate: £31.25
If you have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

Prescription Charge Exemptions
Help with NHS costs
In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes. This includes:
- Those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
- Those who are age exempt
- Those with certain medical conditions

Private Prescriptions from Consultants
What happens if I have a Private Prescription from a Consultant?
If you have been given a private prescription by a consultant you have seen, the Practice will be able to convert this into an NHS prescription under the following circumstances:
- You have been referred to the consultant by a GP in the Practice, or by another consultant to whom you were originally referred by your GP.
- Your GP agrees with the treatment and is prepared to take clinical responsibility for prescribing the drug. This is because any doctor signing a prescription is taking medical responsibility for the effects of the drug, and, in some circumstances, your own GP may not feel happy to do this.
What do I need to do?
Submit a request , via our econsult online service, to change your private presctipion to NHS including a copy of the private prescritption you have been given. Once received , reviewed and agreed to change to NHS, it will be available to collect from your nominated pharmacy in two working days.

What if I think it is urgent to start the medication straight away?
If you feel that you cannot wait for the usual two working days to obtain the prescription from the Practice, you can take the private prescription to any pharmacy which will be able to dispense it for you. You may be able to negotiate with the pharmacy to refund the cost to you once you have obtained the NHS prescription, but this is your responsibility.
